Tamer SHAFIK, VP Business Development, ORASCOM CONSTRUCTION

Mr. Shafik has previously worked in the United Sates and Kuwait. He has been employed by Orascom Construction Since 1998 and has been the VP of Business Development since January 2022.
 
Mr. Shafik has played a key role in the development and growth of Orascom Construction and witnessed the rise of the company to become one of the largest regional contractors operating across the Middle East and Africa.
 
Mr. Shafik was pivotal in the growth of the activities of Orascom in the infrastructure, industrial and building sectors both in development and in construction. Orascom has executed some of the largest projects of fossil fuel power plants in the world and also has grown dramatically in the railway, metro and road sectors. In the building sector, Orascom has executed many prestigious hotels, hospitals, opera houses and museums. They have built the largest Archeological Museum in the world, the Egyptian Grand Museum. Also, Orascom has successfully executed projects in Nigeria, South Sudan and Rwanda.
 
Mr. Shafik has been a key pillar in developing Orascom’s construction activities, particularly in the renewable sector. This includes a good segment of renewable projects, among them the First Hybrid Solar-Thermal CSP Plant (140 MW) as well as the 65 MW Naga Hammadi Barrage and Hydropower Plant in Egypt. Furthermore, he participated in the successful delivery of several projects such as the a First BOO 262.5 MW Ras Ghareb Wind Farm in Egypt and its additional 500 MW Wind. Furthermore, Orascom is currently undertaking the construction works for two barrages in Jiji and Mulembwe in Burundi with a cumulative power capacity of 51.3 MW, which will almost double the national production capacity upon completion.
 
Mr. Shafik graduated from Ain Shams University in Egypt with a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering. Also, he holds a Master of Science degree in Project Management from the New Jersey Institute of Technology and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in International Business from the University of South Carolina in the USA.
 
He is also an Alumni of the Harvard Business School through the Executive Education Program.
