Germany remains one of the most banked countries in Europe with more than 2,000 local banks divided into 3 independent pillars. The network of 421 Sparkassen – savings banks (public banks) dominates the market, followed by the one of 1,000 Volksbank- Raiffeisenbank – cooperative banks. The third pillar includes the three largest German banks (Deutsche Bank / Postbank, Commerzbank and HypoVereinsbank), direct banks, private banks and subsidiaries of international banks. Germany is in the SEPA zone, which means same currency and same means of payment as in France. Banking services differ little, all offer multi-channel offers.
