The promising sectors

  • The hydrocarbon sector should continue to drive growth, with, in particular, the expected increase in production at the Jubilee and TEN oil fields (Tweneboa, Enyenra, Ntomme).
  • Exports are also expected to benefit from the opening of the country’s first gold refinery, scheduled for mid-2019.
  • Manufacturing industries are also expected to contribute to growth, supported by public efforts under the One District, One Factory programme and the improvement of electricity supply.
  • The construction sector is also expected to contribute to the growth of the secondary sector, through increased public investment in infrastructure, including the transport network.
  • While agriculture is expected to continue to grow, difficulties in the cocoa sector are likely to persist, while international prices of brown gold remain relatively low and the fight against the inflated cocoa shoot virus is expected to continue.
  • Forestry activities will also contribute to the growth of the primary sector.
  • Domestic consumption, benefiting from the increase in the minimum wage, is expected to continue to drive growth in services: ICT, trade, but also education and health are expected to remain dynamic.
